I wrote this quit a while back for one of my college classes, I sumbled upon it the other day going through a few of my back up files. I wanted to share this with everyone because this is my top reason I chose the work from home life. This is my driving forc.
Embracing Change
I still remember the exact physical effect the room placed on my experience of
bringing a new beginning into the world. As I first walked into Room 331 at Holy
Family Hospital, my eyes focused directly upon my daughter’s mother who was lying in
a reclining bed against the far wall. The sunlight coming through the two huge windows
to the right of the bed filled the room with radiance, a sense of warmth, and life.
The cleanliness of the room was immaculate from the polished white tiles to the smell of
bedding fresh out of the dryer. Silence engulfed the room as if we where the only ones in
the building, and even the sounds of life out side where obsolete. The room was much
like a hotel room at a resort: the reclining bed, chairs, a restroom to the left of the bed, a
closet, and even room service. If it were not for this room and the attention to detail my
experience and feelings of that day may have been somewhat different.
I erupted with every feeling imaginable, and my inner self was torn and indecisive
on how to feel and where to start. Fear, compassion, love, resistance, excitement, change,
I was overwhelmed with it all. Then the realization came, that I am a father, and it was
my time to step forward and take responsibility. Jennessa Lynne Preckel was born at
1:41 a.m. on December 25, 2001. My heart filled with warmth and a new sense of
understanding, and calmness engulfed us as I laid there embracing the moment as
Jennessa gently sobbed to sleep on my chest. For the first time in my life I truly felt and
understood what unconditional love really meant. From this day, always and forever, my
heart will be filled with love and joy on the account of “Daddy’s Little Girl”.
